Dehradun. On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami honoured 38 senior women from across the state during the “Nari Tu Narayani” programme held at Mukhya Sevak Sadan in Dehradun on Sunday. The women were recognised for their outstanding contributions in various fields including education, social service, entrepreneurship, environmental conservation, agriculture, culture, and water conservation.

Extending greetings on International Women’s Day, the Chief Minister said that the event celebrates women whose sacrifice, struggle, affection and values have strengthened the foundation of families, society and the nation. He stated that the love, dedication and blessings of women help generations progress and enable society to move forward.

Dhami highlighted that mothers often sacrifice their own comforts to ensure a better future for their children. Senior women, he said, are not only pillars of families but also guardians of culture, traditions and moral values.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the contribution of Uttarakhand’s women is especially inspiring. Women in the hill state manage families while also working tirelessly in fields and farms. Even in difficult circumstances, they continue to move forward with courage and determination. “The real strength of the mountains lies in its maternal power,” he said.

He also stated that caring for senior citizens and elderly mothers is a collective responsibility of society. The state government is running several welfare schemes aimed at empowering women, particularly senior citizens. Through old-age pension and widow pension schemes, financial assistance is being provided to women, while efforts are also being made to strengthen healthcare facilities and old-age homes across the state.

Cabinet Minister Rekha Arya said that women who excel in different fields serve as an inspiration for society. She emphasized that an active life is a meaningful life and that women empowerment begins at home and spreads to society and the nation.

Secretary Chandresh Kumar Yadav informed that the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day programme was “Give to Gain”. Under this theme, women above the age of 60 who continue to remain active, self-reliant and socially engaged were honoured.
