NEW DELHI — The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) has announced the launch of a short-term course on Communication and Public Engagement in the Space Sector, aimed at improving how space-related activities, policies, and scientific advancements are communicated to the public and key stakeholders. The initiative comes at a time when India’s space ecosystem is witnessing rapid expansion, driven by landmark missions, growing private participation, and increased international collaboration.
According to IN-SPACe, the course has been designed to address the growing need for clear, responsible, and effective communication in the space domain. While India has achieved significant technological milestones, officials acknowledge that complex scientific and regulatory developments often remain difficult for the general public to understand. The programme which is scheduled in seeks to bridge this gap by equipping participants with practical skills in science communication, public engagement strategies, and policy interpretation.
The course is targeted at professionals from government bodies, space institutions, academia, industry, media, and emerging startups associated with the space sector. Participants will receive structured exposure to communication frameworks, stakeholder engagement models, and best practices for presenting technical information in an accessible and accurate manner. Special emphasis is placed on understanding how space technologies contribute to everyday life, including applications in navigation, weather forecasting, disaster management, agriculture, and telecommunications.
Course Director-Gaurav Kumar, Assistant Director, Promotion Directorate, IN-SPACe & Prof.(Dr.) Sumit Narula, Dean Times School of Media, Bennett University highlighted that public engagement has become increasingly important as non-government entities and private companies play a larger role in India’s space activities. Transparent and proactive communication is viewed as essential to build public trust, counter misinformation, and encourage informed discussions around investment, regulation, and innovation in the sector. The course also aims to promote ethical communication practices, ensuring that scientific achievements are neither exaggerated nor misrepresented.
The programme includes interactive sessions, case studies, and practical exercises that enable participants to develop real-world communication strategies. By strengthening capacity in this area, IN-SPACe hopes to create a network of trained professionals who can effectively connect science, policy, industry, and society.
The initiative aligns with India’s broader vision of democratising science and technology and fostering inclusive growth within high-technology sectors. As the country prepares for future satellite launches, advanced missions, and deeper private-sector involvement, officials believe that strong communication and public engagement will be critical to sustaining momentum and ensuring societal support.
